Driving the Tail of the Dragon

I wasn't sure what to expect when a few of us decided to take a week long trip to Tennessee and drive the legendary Tail of the Dragon. I had high expectations from all the stories I've been told and the pictures and videos that I've seen. So, what was it really like?
To start with, we had to figure out where to stay. I mean we were going to be there for six days and there were 6 of us going. In comes an AirBNB. This was my first time in a long time doing an AirBNB and I've got to be honest it was great. Just a good thing to ask when looking for somewhere to stay is to ask about the driveway. Ours was questionable, but no one scraped their car during the week - good deal... Second thing is that you should find a way to stay as close to the Tail of the Dragon as possible. This makes the day of driving a lot better. We were about 15 minutes away and it was great, made getting out and driving a lot easier.
So, you get there and you have a place to stay. What's next? Well, you Get Out & Drive... lol
But, don't go out and be crazy right away. Take your time, explore all the amazing road, because there are a lot of roads more than just the Tail of the Dragon. Slow down and enjoy the views and make a lot of stops to experience what the area offers.
OK, now that I'll covered the legal stuff about being safe and careful - lets talk about the driving. It's awesome, just awesome. If you enjoy the roads in the Ozarks, you'll love the Tail of the Dragon. More than 300 turns in just 11 miles, and they aren't just turns. A lot of them are hairpin corners. Smooth roads and so much fun.
Cruising the Ozarks is considering going back again next year, and if we do we will let you know so that you can experience it as well.
