Losing a friend

Last month the car community to a hit and I lost a friend. Not everyone may have know him by his name, but as soon as you say "that guy always handing out flyer and playing the 50's music really loud", we all knew who that was. Jay Levine was truly a car person and gave 100% to the community. Personally Jay and I had several talks, both about cars and life. To say the least Jay had lived a full life. Few folks knew much of Jays past, I was luck enough that he shared with me some of it. Jay served in the military (thank you for your service my friend) and would often tell me about his time as radio controller for aerial target for the air defense artillery in the Army. Jay was married has had a family and even had a commercial pilot licence. Jay and I talked about his health a lot also because we were both diabetics.
But for the most part Jay and I talked about cars and car shows. Man did he love going to car shows. Jay gave of his heart, without questions. He would go out of his way to print (and pay for himself) flyers for every car show he heard of.
I find myself missing the Saturday call from Jay reminding me about our Cars & Coffee event. I can only image that Jay had a list of folks that he called, starting at the top and working his way to the bottom, making sure everyone knew about events coming up.
It's tough losing a friend, and jay was a good friend, and now the car community has lost a great resource. Who is going to be at the car shows handing out flyers? No one that I know of. Who will be driving through the parking lot blasting the cool 50's music? Perhaps I need to just put on some 50's music on and listen for a bit, and remember a good friend.
Jay touched the lives of so many in our community. He is going to be missed. Rest in peace, Jay!
